Richie leads trio and quartet combos, adding upright bass and/or piano to his duo of voice/guitar and saxophone/clarinet.  The music that these combos play is light and upbeat, as in the video below.

Some functions may need additional instrumentation, depending upon the type and location.  A larger number of guests usually means that conversation in the venue will be louder, and the greater number of bodies in the room will absorb more sound.  South Texas venues are often smooth concrete walls and floors, causing an echo in certain frequencies, especially in square rooms with low ceilings.  Richie’s combos make a point of not using drums to keep volume lower than most musical groups play.  The necessary rhythmic pulse is there, but it doesn’t command attention.  Richie is also responsive to volume requests; his experience is that people who hire him ask him to turn up the volume, rather than to turn it down.  Each case is different and Richie makes a point to consult with party planners well before the engagement begins.
